Niagara County’s agricultural and natural lands are of economic importance. With many changes taking place within the county, the County’s agricultural and natural lands are facing conversion pressure. In order to preserve agricultural and natural lands and stabilize the agricultural economy, updates to the Niagara County Agricultural and Farmland Protection Plan are essential. In 2015 Niagara County, in collaborating with CCE was awarded a NYS Agriculture and Markets grant to update the 1999 Niagara County Ag. Plan. The expected outcomes of the agricultural and farmland planning project include protection of the high quality farmland and open spaces in Niagara County, and updating the most recent Agricultural and Farmland Protection Plan to align with evolving agricultural practices in order to boost the agricultural economy in Niagara County. With matching funds from the Niagara County Legislature and CCE, this project was adopted in 2019.
