  • Thursday, September 28, 2017, 8:30 AM - 2:30 PM

The Ornamentals IPM team will be in WNY for another informative hands on workshop. Bring samples of insects, diseases or nutrient issues for diagnosis.

TOPICS

Biological Warfare for Aphid Annihilation
Using live specimens, we'll learn how to identify two aphids that cause the most problems on greenhouse crops. Learn how aphid populations can explode and how temperature and fertilizer practices can affect these changes. We will also look at a variety of biocontrol agents that are used against aphids and talk about recent research on the topic.

Producing Healthy Herbs and Vegetables: Disease Management
A hands-on look at some of the common diseases that affect vegetables and herbs and the special considerations involved when managing them including cultural practices and pesticides.

Plant Lighting Revisited, Photosynthesis and Beyond
LED lighting has brought many advances to the greenhouse industry, but is it time to upgrade? We will demonstrate several types of LED and traditional HPS lamps and discuss calculating the costs and benefits of supplemental lighting.
